About University of Hull
The University of Hull was formed in 1927, making us the 14th oldest university in England.
With a proud history of academic excellence and creating and inspiring life-changing research, all in an affordable student city (Numbeo.com December 2020).
Teaching and Research Excellence
At Hull you can learn from academics at the forefront of their field and be part of a vibrant teaching and research community, with many of our programmes enhancing your career potential through incorporated professional and employability skills modules. Hull has also earned a silver award in the Government’s 2018 Teaching Excellence Framework, which recognises excellence in teaching and learning in UK universities and colleges, and an impressive 97.9% of our international students go into work or further study within six months of graduating (HESA 2018).
Over a dozen of our subjects ranked in the top 10 nationally for overall student satisfaction in the UK’s 2020 National Student Survey – the top 10 included Mechanical Engineering, History, Music, English, Chinese Studies, Forensics, Physical Geography and Marine Biology.
We care about making a difference and research that can make a real impact on people’s lives. Hull has two entries in Universities UK's list of 100 discoveries by British Universities which changed the world - the bone density scanner and globally renowned breakthrough in LCD technology. Today we’re in the top 50 UK universities for research power (REF 2014) with a research agenda tackling some of the largest global issues, from health to habitats, food to flooding and supply chains to slavery. Our research institutes also work tirelessly to find solutions to some of the biggest challenges currently facing our world.
In November 2019 Hull also announced its ambition to become Carbon Neutral by 2027, which marks the University's 100 year anniversary. Hull’s vision is to shape a fairer, brighter carbon neutral future for all. Hull plans to deliver on this by preparing outstanding graduates to help solve critical, complex, global challenges and thought provoking, game changing research that is advancing knowledge to inform policy and practice.
